Dear TEFL Qatar members and visitors

I hope you have had a productive year, and that you are looking forward to an enjoyable summer break.

As this academic year comes to a close, I will be making plans to move on from Qatar to take up a post elsewhere.

It has been an absolute pleasure to work with and meet so many of you in my capacity as Chair and founder of TEFL Qatar.

I am confidently passing my on responsibilities to Ryan Brendzy who, I am sure, will continue to develop TEFL Qatar and its activities.

Wishing you Eid Mubarak and happy holidays.

Dear members and visitors

It was a pleasure to see so many of you at the Qatar University Foundation Conference 2018 on 21 and 22 April.

The range of presentations and workshops reflected the diversity in teaching expertise, background and contexts within the ELT community.

We were busy at the TEFL Qatar desk welcoming up new members and catching up with colleagues and fellow lecturers and language instructors from Qatar and the region.

Slideshows and materials from sessions delivered by  TEFL Qatar presenters over the two days will soon be available. You will also find some photographs from the event.

As the end of the academic year 2017/18 approaches we will start to plan for a new series of workshops starting Fall 2018, keeping you updated on these and other initiatives and projects through our Facebook and LinkedIn pages, as well as our regular e-newsletter.

1 November 2017

Dear members and guests,

As you are now well and truly settled into the academic year, I would like to wish you a pleasant few months of cooler weather ahead.

I am pleased to announce the fourth TEFL Qatar Workshop which I will be delivering at the College of the North Atlantic, Qatar on Saturday 25 November 2017 from 10am – 11am in Building 12 Room 210.

Fun and Engaging Listening Activities – In this practical session I will explore the reasons for some students’ difficulties with listening tasks. I will demonstrate exercises and activities which can help to reduce the ‘block’ that learners can have towards listening tasks.

Active participation from those who attend will ensure that they have a first-hand understanding of how these can effectively reduce the anxiety listening can sometimes cause for learners.

There will be an opportunity to evaluate the tasks and think about how they might be used or adapted for different learning contexts and different levels of language proficiency.

Please pre-register for the event as places are limited.

Welcome to TEFL Qatar.

This month we held the first of a series of TEFL Qatar workshops for instructors from the English Language Teaching community in Qatar.

It was a pleasure to welcome existing members, see colleagues and friends, and add some new members to the growing number of individuals joining TEFL Qatar, an associate of IATEFL.

The workshop was delivered by Alex Acuyo, a teacher at one of our key stakeholder institutions, Qatar Aeronautical College. The session explored practical implementation of the task-based approach to classroom teaching and language learning.

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive from all participants, which is an encouraging start for our face-to-face development activities.

You will find pictures and video of the event under the workshops menu on our website.

We are in the stages of planning the second workshop before Ramadan and the summer break. We will post details on our Facebook, LinkedIn and website pages soon.

In the meantime,  we would like to wish you well for the upcoming holy month.
